We are glad to share the Krithi of Sri Muthuswami Deekshitar composed on Goddess Annapoorna.
This song is composed on the Goddess Annapoorna in the ancient temple at Kuzhikkarai Known as Madhya Kashi or Gartateeram, Kuzhikkarai is a small town near Tiruvarur. It has a very famous temple of Vishwanatha and Visalakshi. Dikshitar’s Annapoorne Visalakshi in Sama is in praise of  this goddess. This temple was a private property owned by one Vaidyalinga Mudaliyar, who, on hearing of the greatness of Dikshitar, requested him to compose a song in his name. Dikshitar refused, citing that he was not used to composing on humans. However, in this kshetra, he composed the inimitable Chaturdasha Ragamalika – Shri Vishwanatham. In the 14th raga, he makes a reference to the lord as being the protector of Vaidyalinga, thereby immortalising him also. This temple has a very potent tank which is believed to cure leprosy if one takes a dip in it. Lalita Dasar is the mudra name of T. G. Krishna Iyer, a close friend of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar. He composed around 155 kritis and Chembai popularised them in his concerts. His kriti Unnadimalarinaye is on the goddess of this temple.
