Give a serious thought on India Today From Ramanamurthy M.V.

April 20, 2014

If this article is supposed to be extracted from India Today, then I think the journal may not be worth reading. The article is more concerned with sensationalism rather than with truth.

1. Policeman kills a leopard…. We don’t know the full story. hence it may be unwise to criticise the wild life enthusiasts. Did the policeman try to fight the tiger with the weapon in hand instead of straightaway shooting it? Predators generally run away when they find the prey they are attacking is getting support. Even children are known to have fought off crocodiles when one of them was attacked.
2. Rice is 40 kg but a SIM is free…… Rice does cost a lot of money to produce, you know. A SIM is produced for the equivalent of one US cent, if you are not aware. So what is wrong if rice sells for Rs.40 and a SIM is given away free. A SIM is not really free, it is always bundled with the charges of the service provider like AIRTEL or BSNL or whatever.
3. A nation where a car loan is given at 5% interest…… Have you come across any bank which does? Kindly let me know, I will immediately rush there to avail it.
4. A nation where:  Students with 45% …. Completely untrue. In elite colleges the difference in cut-off % is barely 3-4%.

5. A nation where: A millionaire buys a cricket team ……It is an investment for him like he buys a company. He expects profits, so would you, if you had the millions. It is unrealistic to expect him to distribute it to the poor. Would you do it?

6. Same remarks as above. Also we must ask what about all the millions of the crazy cricket fans who stand in queues overnight to buy tickets when they may not have enough to buy a square meal? This craze is what feeds the fat cats.

7. A country where the ordinary taxpayer…… No comments since I am not aware of the facts about the tax payment of IPL.

8. A country where footwear is sold:  ……. Shall we legislate that footwear should be sold only on foot paths? I have seen a lot of footwear is, as a matter of fact, sold on footpaths. Where you buy it depends on your purse! Where vegetables happen to get sold in AC shops the writer will probably howl that big business is taking away the livelihood of poor vegetable sellers.

7. A nation where Assembly buildings…… This reflects on the attitudes of the people of the entire nation, all 120 crores, to work and ethics. There may not be much change for the next millinnia. Reg. people squatting on Rly tracks, this again depends on the people, I have not seen one single person doing this in Kerala or even in Ghana, which is supposed to be a poor country. About inequalities in the society, regrettable as it is, there is yet no economic system to overcome this and this has been there from the time human beings graduated from just being hunter-gatherers to more ‘civilised’ way of life. Or North Korea must take over the world!

8. A country where politicians take money….. This is one point where I agree with the writer! He has got it bang on. This can be cured to a great extent if we adopt the directly elected presidential system like in USA. At  least we will know who is going to be in charge of the destiny of the nation for the next 5 years.

9. A country where we talk in hushed whispers…… One 100% correct. Corruption starts with every one of us.

10. A country where to get a job in Govt. … Let us vote only educated people and not worry about what is written in the Constitution.

11. A country where if our soldiers are caught …… Will it be ok if we also become monsters like them?

My personal views of course, but I agree that many may find the India Today article more to their taste.

What u r getting is your own money which is due to you…
Govt is not doing you any favour….

ALL THE YEARS, THE GOVT HAD BEEN CHEATING OD PENSIONERS….. AND THE BUREAUCRATS HAVE BEEN PLAYING THEIR OWN GAME……..Taking the lion’s share for them and depriving some others…..

So no old pensioner need to feel guilty….

YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR PENSION- NOT AS A GRATIS …OR BOUNTY…..

FOR HAVING SLOGGED LIKE A DONKEY FOR YEARS AFTER A MUCH HIGHER DEGREE OF QUALIFICATION THAN A BUREAUCRAT….. .. –

WITHOUT DUE PROMOTIONS IN TIME – SACRIFICING BEST PART OF MY YOUNG YEARS AS A GEOLOGIST OF GSI IN REMOTE JUNGLES/ VILLAGES  ETC……No comparison… I

If u r feeling guilty, it is up to u to decide what is to be done with your pension….I don’t subscribe to your views…

MY CHILDREN DIDNT HAVE BEST OPPORTUNITIES BECAUSE OF FIELD LIFE  … STILL BECAUSE OF OUR DISCIPLINED WAY OF LIFE, WE SAVED , EDUCATED THEM, BROUGHT THEM FORWARD…..

ARE U SHORT OF IDEAS?…… HERE ARE SOME……

There are thousand ideas!…

But so long we have a constitution which is out dated and irrelevant today…so long we have reservations…. so long we have vote banks thru caste/ religion minorities….. so log we do not make all  people “literate enough…”…. so long we do not prevent illiterate/ corrupt/ criminals from being elected ….. so long we have mechanisms and provisions to siphon profits of FDI sources by scrupulous / unscrupulous means…. so long we allow crony capitalism to dictate terms to the Govts….. so long we are not able to limit the no. of parties at least at National Level to contest general elections….. so long as we are not able to contain the “Regionalism” thru “Regional Parties”……. so long we are not able to implement CABINET DECISIONS sincerely thru executive…. so long as the EXECUTIVE continues to be the stooge of the politicians,,,, so long as the JUDICIAL SYSTEM is not able to deliver speedy justice….. so long as the JUDICIARY succumbs to political dictates /interference/ dogmatism……. so long as JDUICIAL INCUMBENTS’ weaknesses of one kind or other are not overcome….   my list will be endless…….

Dr RNM…. we need one more life to do something…

EASIER SAID THAN DONE……

I am happy to remain where I am…. if I can the survive and sustain  the rest of the time…

make hay if u can when the sun shines ….otherwise relax and enjoy…..

policeman kills a leopard that is actually attacking a villager, and instead of being felicitated he is booked for the crime of saving a human being at the insistence of some Wildlife Organisations.

A nation where:
* Rice is Rs.40/- per kg and SIM Card is free.
* Where a pizza you have ordered reaches home faster than an ambulance or police, even if you were being murdered or having a heart attack!!!

A nation where:
* A car loan is charged at 5% but
Education loan, so necessary for our youth is charged an interest of 12%.

A nation where:
* Students with 45% get into elite institutions through the quota system, and
* Those with 90% are sent away because of merit.

A nation where:
* A millionaire buys a cricket team, spending crores instead of donating the money to any charity.

A nation where:
* Two IPL teams were auctioned at 3300 crores,
* Yet we a poor country where millions don’t get two square meals per day.

A country where:
* Ordinary salary tax payer is punished/fined for error in paying little less in tax,
* But the IPL collecting thousands of crores has not paid any income tax
and no body has any issue about it.

A country where:
* Footwear is sold in AC showrooms,

* But the vegetables we eat, are sold on the footpath and very often next to garbage dumps.

Its a strange nation we live in,
* Where assembly complex buildings get ready within a year, while
* Public bridges, flyovers and sea links take several years even to get off the drawing board, and another decade to be completed.
* We have malls, and sky-rises, with slums forming their boundary wall.

A country where:
* Men and women squat on railway tracks, with no where else to go, while * Watching them from windows, are couples (just ‘Two’) with three bathrooms and one for the guests.

A country where:
* Politicians who are supposed to serve the people accept money from the same people they are supposed to serve, and then

* Take a salary from the government for their services to these people.

We are a nation:
* Where we talk in hushed whispers about the corruption in the country and then
* Dig into our pockets to bribe a cop when we are caught cutting a red light.

A country:
* Where to get small service in Govt. needs a minimum qualification of graduation, but
* No qualification is required to run the same Govt. (get elected!).

A country:
Where our soldiers defending our borders, when jailed by neighbouring  countries, are tortured & not even provided proper food/ facilities, but
The militants from across the borders when in our jails are served  biryani on demand.

Think about it & Why can’t we do something about it.
